Skogen
Skogen

Skogen is the new project led by saxophonist Werend Van Den Bossche. In Skogen, he unites his fascination with (Northern) European jazz and American roots music in a melting pot of saxophones, guitars, pedal steels and banjos.

Skogen is Norwegian for "the forest", echoing the Van Den Bossche surname—"of the woods"—and lending the project an atmospheric undertone that suits the music.

Following a research trip to the American Appalachians—where he studied the traditions and folklore of country and bluegrass—Werend has returned with a series of original compositions boasting a unique sound.

Irish Roots Ensemble
Irish Roots Ensemble

The Irish Roots Ensemble (IRE) presents a unique blend of Irish and American musical traditions. The trio combines instruments that are seemingly quintessentially Irish—such as the low whistle—with American ones like the 5-string banjo, resulting in a transatlantic sound that bridges the two worlds.

IRE explores and reimagines the intersection between American old-time music and Irish tradition. While respecting the roots yet embracing a modern approach, IRE takes listeners on a journey from the hills of Ireland to the Appalachian Mountains.

  • Werend Van Den Bossche: Whistles
  • Klaas Van de Loock: Banjo
  • Pieter Mortier: Guitar
